Teleconference with Senator Conrad Burns
By Ben Gross
Senator Conrad Burns (D-Montana) announced in a teleconference to CFP96 that he will introduce a bill in Congress on Friday to eliminate all regulations on encryption.
The Internet entails a barrage of intellectual property and commerce issues related to encryption, Burns said. In order to maintain confidence in products, encryption is a necessity. And as long as the government stays out of encryption then the marketplace will take care of itself.
Burns spoke briefly about preserving today's opportunities for future generations. He answered a question from the Voter Telecommunications Watch, stating that the bill he proposed would outlaw government key escrow. The call ended abruptly when Burns had to go "save a dam."
